Court documents say a Columbia U.S. Marine who was killed at his home Sunday evening on Ridgemont Court was shot to death during a robbery.

Boone County prosecutor Roger Johnson has filed second degree murder, first degree robbery and two counts of armed criminal action charges against the three suspects. They are identified as 18-year-old Alexis Baumann of Hallsville, 18-year-old Kobe Aust of Columbia and 18-year-old Joseph Crane of Columbia. A male juvenile has also been arrested for second degree murder but that case is in juvenile court at this time.

Boone County prosecutors describe Baumann, Aust and Crane as flight risks in court documents, and all three are jailed without bond.
Court documents say Marine Michael Ryan Burke suffered multiple gunshot wounds during Sunday night’s robbery but called 911 before he died to say someone came to his house to purchase his phone and that a suspect shot him. The Columbia Police Department’s probable cause statement quotes Baumann as telling police that the juvenile suspect admits to shooting Burke. The court documents also allege that the suspects were involved in two other phone robberies this month.

Ridgemont Court is west of Forum and west of Schnucks and CC’s City Broiler. CPD describes their investigation as active and ongoing: anyone with information about the homicide should call Columbia Crimestoppers at (573) 875-TIPS.
