The Moberly murder suspect who was shot and killed by Columbia police during Saturday night’s standoff has been identified as 27-year-old Timothy Turner of Columbia.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol has released his name. Turner is suspected of shooting and killing 37-year-old Donald Hickem of Moberly on Saturday. The murder happened in the Magic City.
The Missouri Highway Patrol’s Division of Drug and Crime Control (DDCC) is investigating the deadly officer-involved shooting, which is standard procedure. Columbia Police say the suspect who was killed was the Moberly murder suspect and that he had refused to drop a knife. Saturday night’s incident happened in the 1500 block of Raleigh drive in north Columbia, east of Rangeline.
Columbia Police say they were contacted Saturday by Moberly Police to assist in locating and arresting the murder suspect. CPD’s SWAT and its crisis negotiation teams responded to Raleigh drive, where the suspect’s vehicle was found. They arrived on-scene at about 9 pm and determined the suspect was inside, along with an adult female and multiple juveniles. Columbia Police say they spoke to the woman by phone and that she indicated she was in danger. CPD says that around 10 pm, the suspect came out of the house armed with a knife and would not comply with orders to drop the knife. Police say they deployed less-lethal methods to apprehend the suspect, but it didn’t work. Police say because the suspect was still a threat to the police officers as well as the people inside the home, multiple officers fired at the suspect, who was struck by gunfire.
While first aid was provided, the suspect was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Patrol’s Division of Drug and Crime Control is investigating, and CPD’s internal affairs unit is also reviewing the incident. Anyone with information on the incident is asked to call the Missouri State Highway Patrol’s DDCC at (573) 751-1000.
