Walsh plans focus on COVID liability, gas tax in remainder of session

Missouri lawmakers are on their spring break this week. State Rep. Sara Walsh says one focus in the second half of the legislative session should be COVID-19 liability protections for businesses.

The Ashland Republican says she does not want a business to get sued because a customer gets sick after shopping there.

“That’s very sad because these businesses are struggling, and some of them are afraid to reopen, or reopen to any lengths, because again someone could very easily sue,” Walsh said on The Mike Ferguson Show.

Walsh says voters in her district have been divided on a possible gas tax hike for roads and bridges that passed the state Senate. She says drivers could get a rebate on those potential new taxes if they keep their receipts at the pump.

“That could possibly help. My constituents are the ones that are like ‘yeah, it’s long past overdue that we need to do a gas tax,’ a nice clean bill. But, then again, there are some that are like ‘no more government taxes.’ So that might be a happy solution.”

The Missouri House is next scheduled to convene on Mar. 22.
