UPDATE: Boone County assistant fire chief killed in I-70 crash near Columbia

Boone County Fire Protection District officials say an assistant chief was killed in this morning’s horrific I-70 crash involving a tractor trailer near Columbia.

Fire district officials plan a 10:30 press conference to discuss more details about the collision that killed assistant chief Bryant Gladney.

Assistant Chief Gladney was working a previous crash along I-70 near the 135-mile marker, when a westbound tractor trailer struck his vehicle at a high rate of speed. We’re told the tractor trailer also struck an ambulance and another truck.

Highway Patrol Corporal Kyle Green tells 939 the Eagle that the Patrol’s crash team is reconstructing the collision, using drones. Westbound I-70 at the 135-mile marker remains closed.

HERE IS OUR ORIGINAL STORY FROM THIS MORNING:

Boone County Joint Communications tells 939 the Eagle that westbound I-70 at the 135 mile marker near Route Z is closed, due to a multi-vehicle crash.

That area is east of Lake of the Woods. Joint Communications says traffic is being diverted at the Millersburg exit.

Avoid the area.
