A proposal for a cost-sharing agreement with Columbia Public Schools (CPS) for four school resource officers has been first-read by Columbia’s city council.

The cost for the four school resource officers is budgeted at $393,000: CPS would reimburse 75 percent of the cost, which is $295,000. City staff recommends passage of the agreement, which is similar to previous ones.

Meantime, the voter-approved capital improvement sales tax extension would fund a large sidewalk project along Columbia’s North Stadium Boulevard.

The $600,000 project would build a concrete sidewalk to fill-in gaps along North Stadium in northwest Columbia. The sidewalk would start at Stadium and I-70 and go to the Breaktime gas station, near the LA Nickell golf course. It would also include a pedestrian crosswalk across the Business Loop at Cosmo Park.

The cost includes design and utilities. Columbia’s city council first-read the proposal Monday night.
