Appeals court rules for Reisch in lawsuit over Twitter account

A U.S. appeals court rules in favor of local state representative Cheri Toalson Reisch in a lawsuit over her social media.

A district judge ruled against the Hallsville Republican in 2019, saying she violated a constituent’s free speech rights when she blocked him on Twitter. The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit on Wednesday remanded it to the district court.

“I think this is very important,” Reisch said on The Gary Nolan Show on Wednesday. “When you get bullied, and haters and bullies and people calling you names, and just the troll vitriol out there, it’s just disgusting.”

Reisch successfully argued she had the right on her private Twitter account to block someone that criticized her. She has since deleted that account.
