The number one assistant in the Boone County prosecutor’s office has been sworn-in as interim prosecutor. Nick Komoroski had been serving as Boone County Prosecutor Dan Knight’s first assistant, until Mr. Knight’s death this weekend in Columbia.

Columbia police chief Geoff Jones does not suspect foul play in the weekend death of Prosecutor Knight, who was found at his south Columbia home on Saturday morning. Officers were called to the home for an apparent gunshot death.

Komoroski is currently prosecuting the high-profile 2017 drug-related murder of Augustus Roberts in Old Hawthorne, and Komoroski also prosecuted Columbia’s David Myers, who was sentenced to 40 years in prison for the 2020 death of his neighbor on Sycamore Hills.

Meantime, the judges of the 13th judicial circuit in Boone and Callaway counties have issued a statement, saying they mourn the loss of Mr. Knight. They describe him as a “dedicated public servant who worked hard for the people of Boone County.” The judges also say Knight was an excellent lawyer and a good friend to many.

Reporter Lucas Geisler at our news partner ABC-17 also reports that Prosecutor Dan Knight’s autopsy will take place Tuesday.  The Boone County Medical Examiner’s office is assisting CPD’s Criminal Investigations Division with the investigation into the death.
