A Columbia man accused of shooting and killing his father late Sunday night on Pinecrest drive remains jailed without bond this morning.

21-year-old Samuel Brotherton, who’s charged with first degree murder, made his initial appearance in Boone County Circuit Court Tuesday afternoon, via video. County prosecutor Dan Knight filed the charges against Brotherton.

The Columbia Police Department’s probable cause statement says Brotherton called 911 at about 11:45 Sunday night to say he had shot his father. Brotherton told dispatchers he decided to shoot his father, after an argument. The court documents don’t say what the argument involved.

64-year-old Rollin Thompson of Columbia was pronounced dead at a local hospital.

The CPD investigation continues.
