It looks like Columbia’s popular Fire in the Sky event on the fourth of July will take place at Stephens Lake park, which is near Broadway and Old Highway 63.

Columbia Parks and Recreation acting director Gabe Huffington says Fire in the Sky is looking for a permanent home.

“And right now we have had some city council discussions already about hosting Fire in the Sky at Stephens Lake Park. Provides us with the space to where we can shoot fireworks that will be high enough, big enough for a great fireworks show,” Huffington tells 939 the Eagle’s “CEO Round Table.”

Events in previous years have been hosted at Mizzou, Flat Branch park, Cosmo park and American Legion park.

“Our fire department also police department have experienced events there in the past, recommended that location to us. And so we will continue on that planning process for the next couple of months leading to the 4th of July,” says Huffington.

This year will be Columbia’s 70th annual fourth of July celebration. You can hear Fred Parry’s full interview with Mr. Huffington here.
