Columbia woman struck and killed while trying to cross Highway 63

Columbia Police investigators have identified the pedestrian struck and killed Saturday evening on Highway 63 near Conley Road as Cassandra Shafer of Columbia.

Detectives say the 54-year-old Shafer was crossing Highway 63 Saturday evening at about 6:40, when she was struck by a pickup truck towing a trailer. Shafer was struck in the passing lane of Highway 63, and had been walking from west to east.

She was pronounced dead at the scene. Columbia Police say their investigation is ongoing.
