Columbia’s city council has unanimously voted to approve a developer’s plan to build 495 single-family homes and villas near Sinclair Road and Nifong Boulevard in south Columbia.

The council is praising “Legacy Farms” developers for listening to neighbors and for being forward-thinking. The project will include villas and cottages, and 30 acres of green space. The developer also indicates a coffee shop and sandwich shop will be built on-site, which neighbors support.

Longtime Councilman Ian Thomas describes the “Legacy Farms” project in south Columbia as the most future-looking project he’s seen in nine years. Councilmen Karl Skala and Thomas and Mayor Brian Treece praise the developer’s public outreach.

The developer testifies they’ll build a pedway connecting Mill Creek to John Warner, and they’ll also include an open field for children to play football or baseball.

There are concerns from some neighbors about potential traffic issues.
