The pay for the bus driver positions begins at about $16 an hour, and there are signs up near Hickman High School advertising the openings.

“We are looking for bus drivers. There is a bit of a shortage with that, and so if there’s anyone out there listening that would love to join our bus drivers, we are running short,” Dr. Brian Yearwood said, during a recent interview on the 939’s “Wake Up Columbia.”

CPS spokeswoman Michelle Baumstark tells the Eagle that the nationwide shortage of bus drivers is impacting Columbia. Baumstark describes driving a bus as an admirable and important role in the education of students.
