Friday is a Missouri state holiday, to observe President Abraham Lincoln’s birthday.

Most state offices are closed today, with the exception of emergency services such as the Missouri State Highway Patrol and prisons. About 14,000 state employees in the Jefferson City area have the day off.

The Missouri Senate will be in session this morning and will gavel-in at 10, due to the congressional redistricting debate. The Missouri House has adjourned for the week.

Abraham Lincoln served as the nation’s 16th president, and issued the Emancipation Proclamation in 1863.
