Officials break ground at the Ranken Technical College site in Ashland on Apr. 30, 2021

Groundbreaking for Ranken Tech site in Ashland on Friday

Officials ceremonially broke ground Friday morning for the new Ranken Technical College campus in Ashland.

The federal government has promised $4.5 million toward it. Ashland Republican Rep. Sara Walsh is pushing for the state to add $1.5 million.

Our sister station KWOS asked if mid-Missouri can support two technical colleges.

“They have done all their homework to ensure that this would be complementing, not competing with anything out there,” Walsh said. “A lot of the classes and things like that, there’s the demand and the need, but all those are pretty much capped out.”

State Technical College of Missouri in Linn has more than 1,000 students enrolled per year.
