Jefferson City road crews try to keep up with salt shortage

This might have been a good year for you to have invested in ‘salt futures.’

Cole County Public Works Director Larry Benz says they’ve already gone through a lot more salt than they do in an average winter.

“[We] got a few loads in,” said Benz. “We still could use a lot more salt. Right now, we’ve got enough to make it through this storm.”

Benz’s supplier is coping with a nationwide road salt shortage. They’ve brought in some 300 tons of salt and more is expected. Jefferson City road crews are experiencing the same shortages.

  1. How come every year they say the same thing. Sounds like we need to get rid of these people and bring in people that take responsibility and can do some planning. Just shows how down hill jeff city has gone, and keeps going.
