Motorists in Columbia, Jefferson City and across mid-Missouri will notice numerous state Department of Transportation (MoDOT) snow plows and vehicles on state highways Thursday morning, starting at about 9.
It’s part of the agency’s statewide winter weather operations drill. MoDOT drivers will be reacting to a simulated forecast of significant snow for the entire state.
MoDOT is also warning that it is experiencing record high turnover, with more than 70 employees leaving each month for the past six months. MoDOT says they are now several hundred employees below what they need to cover more than one shift in a statewide storm.
20 percent of the agency’s plow operators have less then one year of experience.
