The two Cole County Commission races are shaping up to be a real battle royale.
Harry Otto is challenging Western District incumbent Kris Scheperle. Otto, who’s a former deputy state auditor, claims Scheperle and Eastern Commissioner Jeff Hoelscher broke the law when buying Canadian-built ambulances for the county, instead of buying from Osage Ambulance in Linn.
“When they bought a foreign product, [they were] in violation of Missouri law that says you buy U.S. product unless it costs 10 percent more than foreign,” said Otto.
Both sitting commissioners stand by their choice, saying the ambulances were cheaper and saved thousands of tax dollars.
