Confederate marker on Moreau Dr. in Jefferson City in Sept. 2020

“Rebel Rock” marker returned to Confederate group

The United Daughters of the Confederacy is getting its marker back.

The Jefferson City Council voted Monday night to return the controversial marker that was ordered torn down at a council meeting in October.

The marker on Moreau Drive described where former Missouri Governor and Confederate General Sterling Price decided not to attack Jefferson City during the Civil War. Several groups successfully lobbied the city to have the marker removed, saying it glorified the city’s racist past.
