A Columbia man charged with killing a man in Boone County in November remains jailed without bond.
36-year-old Mark Achterberg is charged with first degree murder for the November shooting death of Justin Stidham. Achterberg appeared in Boone County Circuit Court on Tuesday afternoon, and Judge Tracy Gonzalez rejected bond attempts.
She cites the murder charge, his record of convictions dating back to 2004 and that Achterberg had to be extradited back to Missouri from Iowa. Achterberg was captured in Creston, Iowa.
Judge Gonzalez told Achterberg in open court that “no combination of monetary or non-monetary conditions will secure the safety of the community or other person.”
Two men who were sitting in the courtroom pumped their fists in the air, when Judge Gonzalez announced her decision. They appeared to be family or friends of Stidham.
